Here is a little diary from Instagram about how our first event in Formula Drift went with our Project V8 240sx. Over the last few weeks we made some changes to the car that we will slowly update on the blog as time moves forward. With some last minute preparations we were off to let Dennis Mertzanis take on qualifying!
After an alright qualifying run Dennis was sitting in 29th place for the main event with 20 drivers still to make a second pass. Ryan Clemens, the team crew chief, chats about setup changes to our KW Suspension and SPL suspension to improve our front going into Saturday’s competition.
A quick change to some fresh Kenda Tires got us ready for evening practice at Formula Drift Streets of Long Beach. This along with our suspension tweaks helped our front end grip and pushed Dennis about 6mph faster than he was in qualifying. It meant our setup was progressing in the right direction.
After the night practice was done we found some small changes to be made with our LS3 engine that dyno’d at 452whp earlier this week on the dyno at D3 Cadillac.
This sellout crowd was going nuts all day for drifting and soon our Project V8 240sx was to line up with #1 qualifier for the day Ryan Tuerck.
Here is Dennis Mertzanis leading against Ryan Tuerck in the Top 32 tandem battle. We should have some video up soon of our runs but sadly Ryan Tuerck knocked us out of competition for the weekend.
Luckily Dennis was called upstairs to take place in the half time show where he was interviewed by Jacob Leveton and broadcast worldwide. Dennis talked about his new program, new sponsors, and his favorite website (fuelculture.com). It wrapped up to be a pretty great weekend of drifting and we cannot wait to get back out to the track for Road Atlanta next month!
